# A35W42B this plug came attached to the trailer. I was wondering if the male end attached to the truck could work if it only had one brown wire?

Yes the wishbone style 4-ways like part # A35W42B are perfectly compatible with 4-ways on vehicles that only have a single wire for the running light circuit. This is very common and wouldn't be an issue at all.
