Question:

The top part measures 23 3/4". If I go to the outside brackets where they fold I get 24 1/2".

If you're wanting to replace the complete assembly of your 2008 Freightliner's steps then I'll just need to know the entry height (ground to mounting plate) and the width of your mounting plate. For example the Replacement Step, Motor, and Switch for Kwikee RV Electric Steps - 28 Series - 23-5/8" Wide # LC3747451 you linked to would be a fit for an entry height of 15-5/8" - 17-5/8" and mounting bracket width of 24-3/4".

If you can get these measurements and reply back then I can find the correct replacement for you.
