Question:

I bought one and cant get it to light up the way I want it to... I would like it to come on as a brake light also, dont care either way if it flashes with tail lights. I can get it to work but it only comes on with one turn signal or the other and wont work with the opposite side. I would just be happy if I could get it to light up with the brakes and running lights. When I bought this light it did not suggest needing anything else? A video would be good... From what I am reading it looks like I would need some adapter? Thanks

The lamp you referred to, part # STL80RB is intended for use as a third brake lamp, but it could be used as a single function lamp only. It is not meant to operate as a multiple function lamp. This would explain why the lamp is not doing what you are wanting.

The # STL79RB is designed as a 3 function lamp, stop, turn and tail light. If you wanted to use one of the # STL79RB lamps on either side and the # STL80RB you referenced only as a center-mounted stop light, you can do so, but you would need to do some additional wiring to separate out the brake signal. A vehicle to vehicle tail light converter, like part # 118158 would need to be tapped into the right and left turn signal circuits on the trailer in order to separate out the brake signal. The converter box should be mounted in a protected location if at all possible. This would be a pretty simple procedure, as you can see from the diagram I provided. Unfortunately we do not have a video showing how to wire this.
