Is There A Way To Keep The Battery In A 2021 Jeep Cherokee Charged While Flat Towing

Updated 10/20/2021 | Published 10/19/2021

Question:

Greetings ETrailer. I purchased a 2021 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux 4x4 with Active Drive ll. I am having the Jeep equipped with all the necessary components for flat towing, Your website is very helpful with my decision on flat towing. I do have a question related to the RM Invisibrake system. Will it drain my battery? Is there anything I need to add under the hood to prevent this from happening? I am trying to prevent a drained battery as I have seen videos on the dreaded death wobble caused when the electronic power steering is affected by a dead battery. I may be confused about this issue. Thanks again for your assistance

I do have an option to keep your battery on your 2021 Jeep Cherokee topped off while flat towing, but it will require a few things. I Included install videos of what will need to be done for you to check out as well.

First, you will need either a 6 Way or 7 Way on the front of the vehicle. The Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 will accomplish this and have the needed ports. From here, you will need to connect the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 to the center port included with the # RM-15267.

Next, you will need to make sure the 1 o'clock port in the 7 Way on your RV has 12 volts of power when the vehicle is started. Odds are you do, but in the off chance that you do not, you will need to wire the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes # RM-156-75 from the battery to this port on the 7 Way.

As to the "Death Wobble", I haven't seen any issues with the 2021 model year as of yet. I did do some looking and I did find in the owner's manual that if you do experience anything that you should contact a local Jeep dealer, but again, I have heard of no issues with the 2021
