Is there an additional connector for the back of the socket to connect to towed vehicle wiring? Is it included? Or are the wires secured into the back somehow?

I do believe you are looking for the Curt Mounting Bracket for 7-Way Connector Plug # C67UR. Or the Curt No-Drill Bracket for 6-Way or 7-Way Round Trailer Connector Mounting Bracket - Long # C57202. These will let you connect and hold any loose wire connectors and keep them secure.
