Which Roof Rack And Kayak Carrier Should I Use On 2012 Kia Optima With Sunroof

Question:

My girlfriend is purchasing a 2012 Kia Optima with sunroof. Will this product work with the sunroof? If not do you have a product that will? She is looking to haul a kayak on the rack. Thank you.

Yep! The Inno Roof rack you were looking at that uses part numbers # INB137, # INSUT, and # INK607 are indeed confirmed to fit your 2012 Kia Optima with the sunroof. Now, most roof rack manufacturers state that you should not operate the sunroof when a roof rack is installed as this could cause damage. However, some racks do allow enough clearance for the sunroof to slide open or even vent open.

This system typically offers about 3-1/2" of clearance between the bottom of the crossbar and the roof. You will want to measure with this system installed on your vehicle to verify, but as long as you have the necessary clearance then your sunroof would be able to open. Opening the sunroof when a roof rack is installed would also add quite a bit of wind noise so you will want to take that into consideration as well.

In order to properly secure a kayak to your roof rack I recommend using a kayak carrier such as etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier # e98878.
