Question:

I have a 2009 Volvo S 40 and have the square Bar 400 XT arrow foot. Which fit kit would I use? I currently have two different ones that I’ve used on previous vehicles fit kit 116 and fit kit 117 would either of those work

We have a fit for your 2009 Volvo S40, but Thule no longer uses the Thule 400 XT Aero foot pack. It was replaced by the Thule Traverse foot, or 480XT, and new fit kits. The Thule Traverse foot is not backwards compatible, therefore the older 400 XT fit kits do not work on the new feet. The old square Thule crossbars that fit the 400 XT Aero foot pack are not compatible with the new Thule foot. Not only have the Thule feet changed, the Thule crossbars have also changed. Here is the Thule roof rack that fits your vehicle, you will need the following:

Rapid Traverse Feet for Thule Crossbars - Naked Roof - Qty 4, part # TH480R,
Fit Kit for Thule Evo Clamp Roof Rack Feet - 5159, part # TH145159, and the
