How Do I Eliminate Slipping and Close the Gap on My Retrax XR Tonneau Cover?

Updated 11/21/2025 | Published 09/17/2021

Question:

my cover slips and has a gap on the non lock side. New stop for the lock might tighten this up but I still think I will have a gap on the right side

I'm so sorry to hear about your cover! Thanks so much for attaching photos of the issue.

I reached out to my tech at Retrax, and he said that judging by the lack of a lock on the passenger's side, you have a Retrax XR cover. The Retrax XR will have a slight gap on the passenger's side, although this gap can be decreased. What you need to do is to adjust the white screws on either side of the clamps (on both driver and passenger side) to bring the rails in closer together. This will help decrease the gap/slipping on your cover.

Hello, not sure how old this is. , I think I had the same issue on my retrax XR on a 2024 Ford f-250. When fully closed it stayed closed, but anytime I try to leave a partially open it would slam forward when I hit the brakes even the lightest bit. The right side set screw was not touching at all. I tried to adjust it to its longest length and it did not reach. I ended up loosening this bolt and then sliding the mechanism as far right as it would go before stopping. Seems to have done the trick. I believe adjusting the white screws only brings the rails closer for their part but would not help the customer with the question.

Bring them in together by how much?! How does that help?
