Question:

Im a bit confused on installation process for the Roadmaster Universal Brake Monitor. Ive got the following parts installed on my 2013 Subaru Forester: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms ITEM # 921-3 Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Wire to 6-Wire Straight Cord ITEM # RM-152-98146-7 Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System ITEM # RM-8700 Per instructions the Roadmaster Universal Brake Monitor ITEM # RM-9530 needs to connect to a breakaway line, and to brake switch line. The breakaway line in the InvisiBrake is thick and wrapped and theres no obvious place to splice into. Is there something I am missing here? Does it need to go somewhere else? And the brake switch line - since ive got the 4-Diode wiring kit, do I need to run a line from the brake lights AFTER the diodes and into the car to connect to the Brake Monitor, or is there something else I need to do? Splicing into the brown wire from the 4-Diode kit in the engine compartment didnt seem to activate the monitor blinked red and green lights so I think its because the line at that point is PRE diodes.

I can certainly clear all this up for you and I was able to confirm this information with Roadmaster directly in regards to your 2013 Subaru Forester. When tapping into the breakaway wire on the Invisibrake # RM-8700 to complete the installation of the Roadmaster Universal Brake Monitor # RM-9530, you will want to tap into the thick yellow wire you mentioned; you'll just need to cut into the thick covering on the wire and make your connection.

When it comes to the blue wire on the # RM-9530, you won't be tapping into any wiring on the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Wire to 6-Wire Straight Cord # RM-152-98146-7. Instead, you'll want to find the cold side of the brake switch, which on the 2013 Subaru Forester should be a brown/white wire located on the brake pedal or just above it under the dash. You'll want to test the wiring with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to confirm that the wire only provides 12v when the brake pedal is pressed, but you'll connect the Brake Monitor's blue wire to that and the monitor will activate.
