Can B&W Companion Be Used With A Reese Revolution Pin Box on a 2007 Chevy Silverado

Published 08/20/2021

Question:

I have a 2500 Chevrolet with a 6 1/2foot bed. I also have a 5th wheel with the Reece Revolution hitch and purchased a truck with a BandW goose neck hitch. I have been looking at the companion hitchs but was told that I need to lock my Revolution hitch because it could cause damage to my hitch and the bed of my truck if I did not lock. Is this arcuate information?

That is correct. The post of the Companion that inserts into the B&W Turnover Ball gooseneck hitch wouldn't be able to withstand the torque that the Revolution pin box would place upon it, which would damage the gooseneck hitch as well as the Companion 5th wheel hitch and could actually cause the trailer to come free, which would be not so good.

This being said, there is a way to use a different B&W Companion hitch on your truck that WOULD be compatible with a Companion hitch, but it would involve getting rid of your existing B&W Turnover Ball hitch and installing a Reese Elite # RP30061 Under Bed Rail KIt in its place.

The next step seems strange, but Reese originally developed the OEM tow/prep puck system for Ford. The Reese Elite Rail Kit uses the same puck spacing as the Ford OEM pucks, so you could use a B&W Companion hitch for Ford OEM pucks like # BWRVK3300. The hitch would drop right into the pucks provided by the # RP30061 (you might need to make a slight initial adjustment) and you'd be good to go. And, because you have a Revolution pin box, you can use a stationary hitch and not need to mess with a slider. Honest, this isn't a typo, you can actually use the Ford hitch on a Chevy truck as long as you use the # RP30061 rail kit.

The only other things you'd need is the # SWW-06 wedge you'd looked at, which would install on the underside of the arm of your Revolution pin box and perhaps an in-bed 7-way trailer connector like
# C56000 if you don't feel like running the trailer connector cable up over the tailgate.
