The good news is that Yakima sells rooftop tents, so their fit guide will always indicate whether their rooftop tents are compatible with their roof rack. This is a good indicator of whether other companies aftermarket roof racks will support the weight of a rooftop tent. Your 2017 Chevy Suburban can carry a rooftop tent.

Before rooftop tents we had to keep track of one weight limit. This weight limit is primarily based upon the strength of the vehicle's roof. That weight limit is the dynamic weight limit, or the weight limit you can have on a moving vehicle. Since it was just one weight limit, we never referred to it as the "dynamic" weight limit. But with the advent of the rooftop tent we had another weight limit to consider, the static weight limit or the weight limit your vehicle can withstand at rest. This limit is also trickier to calculate. When you are shopping for a roof rack for your vehicle, the weight you see during your research is usually the dynamic weight limit.
