Question:

How do you lock this actuator to the trailer ball hitch to prevent trailer theft.? For my current one I can put a combination lock on it for security.

To lock the latch of the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Drum - Zinc - 2" Ball - 7,000 lbs # DM72VR you were looking at you will need the etrailer Surge Brake Coupler Lock - 3-3/8" Span - 1/4" Diameter - Chrome # e98888.

This lock goes in the hole shown in the included picture and keeps the coupler closed so no one can hook up a hitch ball when the trailer is sitting around, and will also make it so no one can remove the trailer from your hitch ball when it is hooked up to your truck.

Does this coupler lock also prevent the ball from becoming unhitched while driving with the trailer?

@Adam In that it will prevent the handle from being actuated, yes it will. If you are asking about the actual lock holding the ball inside the coupler, that is most likely going to be a no. However, there are some couplers (like the Curt QuickPin No-Latch # C82CR as an example) that use that pin to hold the ball in the coupler. If you have this style, then yes the lock would keep the ball from coming unhitched. The vast majority of couplers are not designed like this though, so they will only lock he handle components that keep the ball secure.
