Question:
Please verify that the Thule Hullavator TH898 will work on a 2015 Ford Explorer will the following Thule cross bar items: TH711500 and TH710401. Will the TH711500 cross bar extend away from the vehicle side far enough to operate the TH898 Hullavator safely? I understand the weight limit of the TH711500 and TH710401 to be 220 lbs. In the future we may add an additional kayak. Would the cross bar and mounts support two Hullavator TH898 systems to transport two 10ft 50lb kayaks? The kayaks are 29inch wide at their widest point. The vehicle has factory raised roof rails, brushed aluminum in color, but no cross bars.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - Silver - 60" # TH711500 and Feet # TH710401 should be able to accommodate the Thule Hullavator # TH898 without an issue. To be sure, you can measure from the center of one side rail to the center of the next side rail on your roof; if this distance is 52" or less then you will have enough overhang.
Each Hullavator requires 28-1/2" of crossbar space, so you will have enough room to install two of them. Keep in mind, each Hullavator weighs about 40lbs so you will have 80lbs plus the weight of each kayak. I checked your owner's manual and your 2015 Ford Explorer appears to have a roof weight limit of 100lbs so it would not be ideal to install two Hullavators.
I think your best option is to go with two of the Rightline Gear Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs # RL100K10. This carrier weighs only 1lb each, so it will be your best option when trying to stay under the weight capacity of your roof.
