Is there a "permanent" option for a roof rack and if so, could you point me in the correct direction?

The only more permanent solution would be to drill in tracks like the Yakima 42" Tracks for Roof Racks # Y01126 along with the Yakima FlushBar Crossbars - Raised Side Rails and Tracks - Aluminum - Black - Qty 2 # Y00456-2. Unfortunately, this will require drilling into the roof of your 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis.
