Updated 06/08/2021 | Published 06/06/2021 >
Question:
I am receiving mixed messagesinch with respect to the complexity of installation of this hitch receiver. Several people who have looked at it have indicated that it should be a very easy eight boltinch installation which should take no more than one and one-half hours. Others have indicated that I will have to have the bumper and fascia removed and that it may take as long as six hours. What is you professional assessment of complexity and time-to-complete the work? Thanks in advance!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11422 we have given a installation rating of 2 hours for a DIY installation on your 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen, that will have the capability of a 2nd person to help with the installation at times when a 2nd set of hands is suggested. These are general times given as there will be those that take longer and those that it takes longer to complete the installation.
I suggest watching our installation video below to help familiarize yourself with the tools required and procedures for removing the different components on your Golf prior to installation.
If you plan on towing or will require auxiliary lights the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118730 will be easier to install while you are already installing the receiver. This will allow you to plug in a flat 4-way trailer connector commonly found on most small trailers and auxiliary light kits.
