Why does the heat shield need to be trimmed? for the Hidden Hitch or Draw tite hitches

The heat shield needs to be trimmed to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24872 that you referenced to allow the mounting flanges of the hitch to mate up properly to the frame of the vehicle.
