Question:
I have a Ram 2500 6 1/2 ft bed. I am using a Curt sliding hitch at its lowest setting. There is about 12 inches between the side of the truck bed and the RV. It is at such a steep angle it is difficult to get the 5th wheel off the truck at the campsite. Also puts more stress on the rear axel. I can move the king pin up to the highest only position, but thats only about 1 1/2 inches. Are there any other solutions to lower the 5th wheel? Thanks Arctic Fox 271RK is too tall

To help adjust the height difference of your Arctic Fox 271RK you have a couple of options. If you aren't level to start with raising/lowering the hitch or the pin box will cause the nose of your fifth wheel to raise or lower. So you can use these to adjust the front of the camper and get your camper to a more level height with your truck. Raising the truck would also affect this.
Depending on your axle/leaf spring set up you can raise the RV by flipping your leaf springs onto the top of your axles or lower the RV by flipping the leaf springs under the axles with an over-under conversion kit:
Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 if you have 2-3/8" diameter axles.
Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit Item # K71-385-00 if you have 3" diameter axles.
A rotating pin box will help with the turning clearance issue you're facing with a short bed. If you reply back the make/model of your current pin box I can recommend the correct replacement. You'll be able to use a wedge with your current sliding hitch to lock the king pin in place instead of having to replace it as well. Note: wedges are brand specific so you'll have to use the correct wedge adapter for the hitch and rotating pin box.
