How To Install Two Thule Hullavators On A Camper Shell

Updated 05/17/2021 | Published 05/15/2021

Question:

I have a 2500 Ram truck with a Cap on the bed 66 I want to carry 2 kayaks using the Hullavator. The cap already has the Thule post and cross bar but the bars are to short. I do not see that Thule offers a 75inch bar I have the 60inch sq bars now. The Kayaks are max 30inch at the center.

Expert Reply:

60" long crossbars are actually long enough to accommodate two of the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carriers # TH898. Each Thule Hullavator requires at least 28.5" of crossbar space along with a minimum of 4" of crossbar overhang on each side of the towers. If you have at least 4" of overhang on each side then you are set to install two of these carriers.

If you do not have at least 4" of overhang then you can instead go with Thule ProBar Evo Crossbars 69" # TH713600 or 79" # TH713700. Then if you don't already have Rapid Podium Feet # TH460R then you will need this along with Fit Kit # THKIT3101. If you don't have Thule-compatible tracks then you will also want to install Thule Roof Mounted Tracks 54" long # THTP54 which the feet and fit kit will attach to. Just make sure you never exceed the weight capacity of your camper shell.
