For your 2003 Ford Escape without the factory towing package, you will not have to do any upgrading of your vehicle's lights to install and use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118343.
This harness will work perfectly as is without any type of modification to your Escape's lighting. The only thing I recommend adding is mounting brackets, the No-Drill Mount for Electrical Mounting Bracket # 18140 with Mounting Bracket # 18144.
These will allow you to attach the 4-flat directly to the hitch that fits your 2003 Escape, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75118.
I have added a link below to an install of the wiring harness, as well as a review of the brackets for you to check out.
