Question:
what is the minimum and maximum width for d rings?

Expert Reply:
There isn't a minimum or a maximum. The # RM-035 Adapter for Jeep D-Ring Bumper Mounts doesn't use the D-rings themselves, they attach to the shackle mounts that the D-rings attach to. You'll also want to find the diameter of the pin hole. The # RM-035 adapter is designed for shackle mounts that are 3/4 inches thick and pin holes that are 7/8 or one inch in diameter. The # RM-035-1 is for 1 inch thick shackle mounts and 7/8 or one inch diameter pin holes.
Before using adapters such as these, you'll want to check with the manufacturer of your bumper and make absolutely sure that the bumper is rated to safely tow the weight of your vehicle, because not all D-ring bumpers are rated for towing.
I've linked to a video showing how the D-ring adapter installs.
