Question:

I have a sterling hitch and just ordered these base plates. Do I need to order different safety cables? Can I swap safety cables on my Sterling? How do I make this combination of hitch and base plates work? Thank you!

The Roadmaster Sterling tow bar Item # RM-576 is compatible with the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Item # RM-524431-5 however, the safety cables are not. The current safety cables would need to be removed and you would not use the quick disconnect bar. Each arm will pin directly to the removable tabs on the baseplate. For safety cables I recommend RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 8,000 lbs Item # RM-645-76.

Installing these on the tow bar is simple. Make sure the D-Link is removed from the end of the cable, slide the end with out the hook, through the slot on the tow bar, toward the motor home. Once each end is through the tow bar, add the D-Link to the ends. These will attach to the motor homes hitch safety chain loops. Keep in mind the safety cables connected on the motor home side should be crisscrossed or connected to the hitch on the opposite side from where they are connected to the towed vehicle.
