Question:
I want to replace GE 93 12 volt bulbs with LED’s. What do I need?

Expert Reply:
A #93 incandescent bulb has a single contact bayonet base, and there are a couple of options for LED bulbs that will replace these. You can choose a bulb that gives off either a warm or cool light; I have added a photo showing the difference between the two bulbs, with the warm on the left and the cool on the right. The correct replacements are the following:
- Warm White: 1141/1156 LED Bulb - Single Contact Bayonet # DI25VR
- Cool White: 1141/1156 LED Bulb - Single Contact Bayonet # DI85VR

The Tensor lamps only have a step down transformer to reduce 110VAC to 12VAC. This means the automotive LED bulbs that operate on 12VDC will not work. You would need to find a 12 volt LED bulb that does not exceed the amprage of the transformer and rewire the lamp base with a diode bridge small enough to fit within the base, properly wired for polarity and capable of the required amperage to exceed the specs of the transformer and LED bulb. This may be possible if the lamp base is large enough to contain the bridge by using the metal lamp base as a heat sink.
