Can Trailer Valet XL Be Used on Sloping Driveway

Updated 05/31/2025 | Published 02/11/2021

Question:

Hello! I am looking for a trailer dolly and came across the Trailer Valet XL Trailer Dolly with Chain Drive. We have a 2018 suburban and will be towing a 5-6k trailer rockwood roo. My driveway has about a 4degree incline where I am thinking i would need to decouple and use a dolly to get it between the house and a fence. Will this be able to push that weight of a trailer up that incline? Thank you!

The Trailer Valet XL, part # TVXL2 with 2 inch ball and the # TVXL25 with the 2-5/16 inch ball are meant for use on level surfaces only, they wouldn't work well on the slope you describe..

Actually, I have a much less expensive and easier to use alternative. I'd install a front mounted receiver like # C31073; the front hitch will allow you to easily put that camper right where you want it, slope or no slope, every time.

Hey Mike L, I have the exact same scenario with a travel trailer and I do have the C31073 hitch on a 2019 Yukon XL. My trailer tongue weight is 700-900 lb depending on how I'm loaded which exceeds the 500 lb limit of the hitch. Will I be ok at slow speeds moving a trailer into tight spots occasionally. I expect the rating has been calculated for at speed road conditions and I'm likely fine carefully creeping a trailer around but I wanted to ask before I try it. Thanks, Delton

@Delton I couldn't recommend doing that. At 900 lbs you'll be at almost twice the vertical load limit. I'd fear that the hitch or it's attachment points to the Yukon could fail.
