Question:
I am looking to buy a redarc tow pro elite for my 2013 tacoma off road pkg. I have the factory harness plug/pigtail but I am confused as to why my harness has 5 wires and all the brake controllers show 4 wires. Also, the colors are different. Is this covered in the install instructions? The factory colors are: black-red green green-white brown red Thank you for any help

All you need to install the Redarc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR in your 2013 Toyota Tacoma is the part # 3040-P and # 331-TPH-017. This plugs right into the connector you have on your vehicle and then directly into the controller so no splicing is required.
The reason your brake controller wiring has more wires ran to it than what the harness has is that there is an illumination circuit ran to your connector that in old school controllers used to be what would light up the displays when the headlights came on.
But the Redarc and virtually all current brake controllers don't need that circuit so the circuit is present on the connectors.
