Recommended Surge Brake Actuator For Tandem Axle Boat Trailer With Disc Brakes

Updated 01/28/2021 | Published 01/27/2021

Question:

I’m going to need is a replacement surge brake actuator assembly. I’m thinking the one that will work for me is Dexter dx63FR 7.5 weld on. My trailer is a tandem axle with disc brakes so would the master cylinder be sufficient for my application?

The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 # DX63FR is would work perfectly for your boat trailer with tandem axles and disc brakes as long as your trailer frame is 3" x 3" or 3" x 4" and you are ok with welding it on. This actuator has a 7500lb weight capacity, so make sure your boat and trailer do not exceed that.

Another option is the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go # 099-175-20 which has the same 7500lb weight capacity and is designed for hydraulic disc brakes, but has a zinc finish for superior corrosion resistance and can be bolted on to trailer tongues that are 3" wide.

Personally I prefer the # 099-175-20 as it will be an easier install, and since it is zinc coated you will not need to paint it like the # DX63FR.

I included videos for both of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
