Modifying Old Backup Camera Monitor System On Your Motorhome

Updated 01/27/2021 | Published 01/24/2021

Question:

Hello, I am engineering a replacement for an older analog Weldex backup monitor system. I have one 6-conductor aviation type connector at my dashboard that likely goes to the camera at the back of my motorhome and two 4-conductor aviation type connectors which were intended to be used for cameras that would have been installed in the side mirrors if my motorhome would have had that option installed. it did not have the side mirror cameras installed.  The obvious choice for me, if my guess is right, would be for me to get a 9 or ten inch monitor screen, multiplexer? and cameras that could be more easily connected to the above mentioned aviation type connectors. Thanks In Advance

You could possibly rig something up to make this work but it's very possible that you will end up with a poor picture quality and run the risk of damaging your components. Without seeing your connector ends it is unclear if we have a plug in option that will work on your old camera. I would recommend the guy a new complete camera system because most modern camera's use shielded wiring which is not recommended to be cut, spliced or modified. If the shielding is damaged the camera will still often work (unless it shorts to a video signal) but with poor picture quality. Something like the Vision S # FCE48TASL-05 camera system would work great, and you will have amazing quality with a larger 5"-screen to look at.

Dave knows his stuff when it comes to these camera systems, so I've included a couple of his videos to learn a little more about the system and how it installs.
