Recommended Roof Rack Solution for 2016 Ford F-150 That Could Possibly Be Used on Different Vehicle

Question:

Hi there, Im looking to purchase a Yakima corebar roof rack for a bare roof of my truck, can I later on used it for my suv (2015 Subaru Forester) that already has roof rails? Is it as simple as not using the clips if I mount directly to the rails?

As long as your 2016 Ford F-150 is a Super or Super Crew cab, you can certainly use a Yakima CoreBar roof rack.

The rack would consist of these parts:

• Yakima 60 inch CoreBar crossbars, part # Y00422
• Yakima BaseLine Towers, part # Y28TR
• Yakima BaseClip fit kit, part # Y06122

You could install the crossbars on the 2015 Forester, but you'd need different roof rack towers. You'd want to use the # Y33TR Yakima TimberLine towers. This would allow you to use the crossbars with the roof rails on your Forester.

This being said, there's actually a less-expensive alternative. For the Forester, instead of different towers so you can use the CoreBars, I'd go with the AirFlow2 roof rack from Malone, part # MPG215. This would be less expensive than the Yakima towers you'd need to use the CoreBars on your Forester. As you can see from the customer reviews, don't let the low price of the AirFlow2 fool you. It's actually a legit piece of equipment that's been very well received by our customers.

I've linked to videos showing the Yakima CoreBar rack on a Ford F-150, as well as the Malone AirFlow2 installed on a 2015 Forester.
