Question:

I am concerned that the rack will either scratch the paint or place too much pressure on the rear spoiler of our 2009 Lincoln MKX. The associated application charts show that it is compatible with the MKX. Please verify. Thanks

The rear spoiler is going to be a problem with any of the trunk mount bike rack options. I do not recommend a trunk mount for the 2009 Lincoln MXK with the rear spoiler because the spoiler cannot withstand the stress. The best and safest way to carry bikes is by using a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack.

I recommend the Class III trailer hitch # C13067. The 2 inch receiver on this hitch will afford you many bike rack options. I have linked a video showing a typical installation and a link to the instructions for you. Curt does say you must use a stabilization strap, # 18050, when using a bike rack or cargo carrier with this hitch.

For a bike rack, I recommend the Yakima Holdup, # Y02443. This rack will clear the rear of the vehicle when folded, and with bikes loaded and the rack tilted down, you should be able to open the rear hatch. I have included a video link that shows all of this on the same generation Lincoln MKX as yours.
