To add a brake controller to you 2010 Toyota Tundra I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional Item # RED44FR and the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Pigtail - Toyota Item # 3040-P and # 331-TPH-017. The plug should be located under the dash, left of the driver foot above the kick panel. It could potentially be taped to a bundle of factory wire.
I like this brake controller because it has user mode. User mode is designed for hauling a trailer off road. For instance you are off road going down a steep gravel hill, user mode allows your brakes on your trailer to receive the amount of brake pressure set on the dial, instantly.
This can sometimes be confused with the manual override in proportional mode. The manual override is designed for instance, sway situations, when you push the manual override in proportional mode, whatever number the dial is set at, it will gradually build the brake pressure to that number. If your trailer, being heavy, you apply the brakes while in proportional made, it may actually push the vehicle while going down the gravel hill. User mode keeps it from pushing the vehicle and the trailer brakes will actually help slow the vehicle because the brake pressure is instant.
