Sensor Behind Bumper In the Way of Drilling Hole for Trailer Hitch on 2009 Mini Clubman S

Question:
I looked under my 2009 Mini Clubman S and there is an electronic device little plastic box with wires attached attached to the inside of my bumper cover right where you would drill the hole for the receiver. Do you know what this is and what I would do with it once I drill the hole?

The device that you are seeing is a sensor of some kind. It should not be in the way since the hole is supposed to go basically through the middle of where the license plate would be. However on yours it does appear that it may be in the way. It looks as though the sensor is supposed to be higher or lower than it is in the picture. There may be a way to move the sensor enough to to drill the hole.
If you find there is no where to move the sensor I recommend contacting a Mini dealer and have then look at it to see if it can be relocated to install the hitch.

I had the same Sensor in my 2012, from the parts catalog it looks like the rear sensor for the Comfort Access system - Bumper antenna passive access.
