Will The EcoHitch # 306-X7277 Work On My 2017 BMW i3?

Question:

Hello - I contacted the BMW dealership that I purchased my car from to see if they will install the trailer hitch onto the vehicle and they said that the will not install it and in fact if it were installed it would void the warranty on the car. I am concerned as I am purchasing it just to install a bike rack but if it is misconstrued that I will be towing or that it’s not an “authorized” BMW part it voids the warranty. Is this component authorized for installation by BMW and if so does it come with documentation indicating this? Please advise. Thanks!

Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question.
