This custom-fit trailer hitch with a hidden cross tube installs behind your vehicle's rear bumper, leaving only the receiver visible beneath it. Aluminum and steel alloy construction is durable and eco-friendly. Powder coat finish resists rust.The hitch was perfect and a super easy install. Probably two hours at most from start to finish. Trickiest part is the plastic clips for the bumper cover, everything else was just a few screws and bolts. Once installed it is totally concealed except the receiver and doesn't impact ground clearance at all.
The i3 doesn't have any options for roof racks, so this provides several options. I don't plan to tow any heavy items, but will use this for yard trailer and hitch mounted rack.
I installed this ecohitch on my 2018 bmw i3s with REX. It fit really well. There is couple of things on my 2018 different from the installation pdf (2014 model), but I can easily find what to do to remove my bumper, the rear door lock antenna need to be relocated because on 2018 it was in interferance. Be really carefull when you pry on the clips on the bumper ends they broke easily, go from inisde the fender to pry on those end clips.
The unther braket (triangle one) didn't fit, I needed to correct the angle to have it fit (10 min more job). But overall pretty happy with the results. I carry a 3 bike rack and the hitch hold well. Bike rack is 52 pounds, with 28 pounds each bike.
It also fit the REX model but the heat generated be the exhaust can burn the paint on the triangle and rust can appear (not in my case after several rex running hours)
The quality of the product was excellent. On my 2018 BMW I3, the clasps that latch onto the bumper were slightly too small, requiring a padded sledgehammer and two people to get it on. It flexed and eventually fit, but it took some effort. The directions were very thorough, though. I would suggest that at the end, the numbers of the install steps with a high level topics in reverse order should be listed for putting it back together. I missed a step and got the undercover plastic on the outside of the bumper and had to remove the undercover protection and insert it in first. All in all, a very good product. Already, had people asking me about where to get it.
A couple of instructional notes:
1) Be very careful with the tabs that hold the bumper to the rear quarter panel. I would try to disengage them from the inside of the wheel well as much as possible.
2) The plastic wire frame does not require exact cutting as long it is larger than the hitch components.
3) A jigsaw does not split the plastic nor the bumper. It cuts evenly. Don't worry too about ragged edges because the rubber casing will cover it perfectly.
4) Make sure that on reinstall, you get the undercover/protection on the inside of the bumper before installing the bumper. If you don't, then just uninstall the undercover protection (not the bumper) and slip it in.
I love everything about this hitch, but mostly I am excited about being able to transport bikes in my i3. The told necessary were minimal (sockets, torque wrench, Dremel) and the instructions were clear. The images are in black and white, and take a bit to figure out what it is they are showing, but they are thorough. I was able to do the whole thing by myself, although an additional person would have made it way faster. Now I'm off to get a hitch bike rack. Thl
One of the recommended shops installed this on my '17 BMW i3 Rex. We use this with both a 4-bike and a 2-bike rack, carrying up to 4 mtbs. I love the look, and this is doing it's job perfectly. Customer service was extremely helpful when a part was missing from the box.
Fit was perfect, solidly made, instructions good
Shipping box does not secure the hitch. It was bouncing around apparently. Dug into bag of parts crimping the trim. Otherwise easy install. Left end of hitch mount was tighter than right. Bolted the right side and hammered the left into position. Is the brace bar supposed to be squared to the hitch? Painted the brace bolts black for a low vis appearance. Very stout parts.
Plug and play, good fit, simple instructions to follow. Towed a 1000lbs motorcycle with trailer from Denver to Los Angeles ez-pz
Easy install. It took about 3 hours with breaks. I used tin snips and a hacksaw to cut the bumper and wire harness holder and it worked well. Can’t wait to try it out with my bike rack.
Has been solid for us. No issues on the install and hauls 2 ebikes with no problems.
After a year of owning it, I can say this hitch receiver is working as expected. The installation was not difficult, hI was able to follow the video . It did give more versatility to our I3
Great product. Instructions were pretty good. There are some good install videos online that are very helpful.
The ‘C’ clamps that fit over the OEM impact rail are a little tight, but a few taps with a rubber mallet put it into position easily.
I remember thinking ‘Do I really need to relocate the antennae? seems to be out of the way.’ Yes, yes you do!

Rock solid after one year. No issues at all.
I think etrailer supplies some hard to find products and i ordered a hitch for the BMW i3, It shipped fast and ive had no problems with it!
Excellent product, fairly easy install. Instructions were basic but videos available online helped. No regrets 1 year later. Well, my only regret is I now know that my i3 bumper is held on with plastic screws! Haha but that’s bmw’s fault.
Installation is straight forward. Easily accomplished by someone with basic mechanical skills. The hitch is the best solution for someone who is into cycling and wants to mount a bike rack. Highly recommend.
Great product. Hitch receiver for our 2017 i3 came with detailed installation instructions, including torque settings for key fasteners. The receiver fit perfectly and the result is clean and professional-looking.
Hitch was delivered on time and damage-free. Installation through an etrailer-authorized installer was smooth and easy and the hitch has worked flawlessly so far.
It’s neat and sturdy. However some rusty discolouration appeared over some edges and corner after a few rainy days. Just wonder if this is normal and safety level is not affected. Would like to know if anything I can do to prevent it from deterioration

It should not be rusting which makes me think there was a scratch or nick in the paint that is causing the rust. I would clean the hitch off and spray black anti-corrosive paint like Rustoleum on the spots that are showing rust or any other scratches you see. This will stop premature deterioration. Using lubrication inside the hitch receiver with your accessories will also help the life. Here is more info in this help article:

A year on and the hitch has been great. I use it for lightweight utility trailer with standard receiver hitches. One caveat, the hitch itself is low to the ground and does scrape very occasionally.
