Question:
Hello, I would like to start flat towing a vehicle with my RV and I understand my 2017 Ford Explorer XLT 2WD would not be a good choice. I am currently searching for a better suited vehicle of comparable value good for flat towing. I found the one referenced above and I wanted to know if that would be a good toad considering installing whatever needs to be installed on it - wires, plates, etc. Also, if this car is appropriate, what towing bars system works better and easier Blue Ox, Roadmaster, etc..? Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Jeeps are one of the most popular flat towing vehicles there is, and would be an outstanding choice. All vehicles need the same basic parts to be flat towed, so as long as the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude is a 4-wheel drive model, you can flat tow it with the following parts.
- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521447-5
- Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates # e74ZR
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 (Note: Jeep issued a tech bulletin to install wiring kit 68321424AB when flat towing your vehicle, which is available at your local Chrysler and Jeep dealership)
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- For a motorhome with air brakes: Demco SBS Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243
The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates are great because they have removable tabs which means your Jeep is going to keep its aesthetic when you aren't flat towing. The SD tow bar is a great option because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, along with integrated safety cables and a built-in rise/drop so you won't have to purchase cables or a high-low adapter separately, saving you additional expenses.
The Flexo-Coil wiring kit is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your Cherokee's electrical system safe, and both the Stay-IN-Play DUO and Air Force One are strongly recommended because they are one-time installs which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and give you smooth braking proportional to that of your motorhome.
Additionally, I have added links below to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
