Are There Suspension Enhancements Available for the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Updated 10/10/2020 | Published 10/08/2020

Question:

Can you recommend the correct part number Sumo Spring for the rear of my 2016 Jeep Cherokee? It has the 3.2 V6 with the factory towing option 4500 lb towing capacity. We’re towing a 21 ft long travel trailer weighing 3500 lb max. Thanks!

I may have a solution for you to help improve your towing experience and provide you with some added support, but the SumoSprings # CSS-1069 are not a confirmed fit on your 2016 Jeep Cherokee and there is not an available suspension enhancement for this vehicle.

Instead I recommend using a weight distribution hitch, which will help reduce the strain on your rear suspension and help with any sag you might experience; we typically recommend using weight distribution any time that your trailer weighs more than 50% of the weight of your tow vehicle. You will want a weight distribution hitch where the tongue weight of your trailer falls towards the middle of the prescribed range for the hitch; your tongue weight should be between 10-15% of the total weight of the trailer, so for a 3500-lbs trailer your tongue weight will be between 350-lbs and 525-lbs.

The weight distribution hitch that I recommend for this size trailer is the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank - 6K GTW, 600 lbs TW # BLU36FR, which has sway control integrated, so on top of helping reduce sag on your rear end it will help keep the trailer under control in sway events. If you're experiencing sag on your 2016 Jeep Cherokee when towing, this would be the best available solution.

I've linked some helpful articles on weight distribution systems that you may want to check out if you're not familiar with them.
