Width of Thule HideAway Awning TH490008

Question:
Im confused by the measurements, how long is it when its closed up and sitting on the roof 6.5 or 8.5 ft?, not how far does it pull out, Im worried about it clearing my rear hatch when open.

I believe you are talking about the width of the Roof Rack Mount Thule HideAway Awning # TH490008.
It is 8-1/2 feet wide across the vehicle and projects outwards from your vehicle 6-1/2 feet.
