Does Disconnecting Coupler From D210 Require Removing Bike Rack  

I just read this .. one of your replies to a question about towing with a bike rack. We carry a very handy 2 inch ball mount for this exact application. The part is # D210. The ball mount slides and pins into your hitch and the top receiver will accept 2 inch bike racks and hold them above the ball. The Ball Mount has a 500 lb tongue weight capacity, which means that the bike rack and the bikes on it as well as the trailer tongue weight cannot weigh more than 500 lbs or the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, whichever is lower. We also have a bike rack that clamps around a 2 inch ball mount instead of sliding into the receiver. That part is # C18013. If you use this rack, you will need an extra long ball mount like part # 80232. Please note that going this route will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your set up. That is why I think the first option is preferable. My questions is , What if you dont have a reece hitch style tow ball... and just the normal tongue sticking out with the towball? I dont necessarily want to have the rack pn and loaded and tow at the same time.. But i dont what to have to undo the tow ball and completely remove the rack each time i tow something. Ive seen the racks that come apart at the base and leave a base plate behind attached to the towbar, sandwiched beneath thd towball itself and you simply slide the rack back onto it and lock it into place when you need to carry bikes.. Can you tow anything when this base plate part is left on???
