Question:
If you take out the ball and install a hitch cover, does this leave the pin that holds the ball in place open to corrosion from the bottom of the hole?

Expert Reply:
The B&W Rubber Cover for Stowed Turnoverball # BWGNXA1710 is designed to fit the backside of the hitchball when flipped for storage, so the pin will still be used to keep the ball in place. The hitch pin of the gooseneck is designed to resist corrosion, but if you are concerned you can always use grease like the LubriMatic White Lithium Grease - 14 oz. cartridge # L11354 to further reduce the direct impact of the elements. This will not change the function of the hitch but may add peace of mind especially in environments where road salt and other factors can cause deterioration to be increased.
