Question:

I have just bought this winch for a Shoremaster cantilever boat lift. When the lift is fully extended about 15 ft of cable are outside the drum. I need to get new cable for this and want to know what length would be appropriate. I know I need some cable still on the drum when fully extended, but how much is appropriate. It seems like buying a 25 ft length of 7/32 cable would leave a sufficient amount on the drum, but I notice you recommend 50ft. Is that overkill for my application or is there some benefit to having lots of cable wrapped around the drum?

The Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 7/32" Diameter x 25' Long - 2,500 lbs. # DL24047 is a great option for your application and will work well with this winch.
