Question:

I already own Road Master Sterling, I am used to purchasing base plate for quick attach as well using a cross bar on my 2018 Equinox and 2007 Cobalt. Is the fact that this is direct attachment to the frame rails not require the cross bar? What about the usual base plates that also allow me to attach a stone shield? Thank you for your assistance and keep up the great photos and videos for install.

The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM28FR do not use the crossbar you referenced. Your Sterling crossbar will attach directly to the brackets.

The style of baseplates that use the crossbar are the only ones that can use the stone shield like the Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard # RM-4000. This is not compatible with the EZ5 base plates. You can however still use the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening # RM-4750 to keep road debris from being kicked up onto your truck.
