Question:
Does the length of the hangers, specifically the center hanger, affect trailer height? Can you increase trailer height by changing center hanger length?

Expert Reply:
The hanger length can affect the trailer height. You would need to change the height of all the hangers equally to keep the geometry of the trailer the same. But at the end of the day there are other ways to get more height on a trailer. Keep in mind that increasing trailer height changes the center of gravity on the trailer and can also change the tongue weight and lead to sway problems. If the springs on your trailer are currently mounted under the axle, you can use an over-under conversion kit and gain height approximately equivalent to the axle diameter.
We have 2 over-under kits. For 2-3/8 inch round axles we have # K71-384-00. And for 3 inch round axles we have # K71-385-00.
If you are wanting to raise the trailer because the towing vehicle is too high, the best and cheapest solution is to use a ball mount or weight distribution shank with more drop.
