Could Timbren Axle Less Kit be Used to Replace Dexter Torflex Trailer Axle
Updated 08/17/2020 | Published 08/13/2020 >
Question:
our last camper was totaled by the dealer..... we only had a few choices that would work for what we do with our pop up camper. We bought a 2020 rockwood hw277. Gvw is 3880. Has 3500 dexter torflex axle and a 380 lb tounge weight. With this our cargo capacity is only 490 lbs. Once it is out of warranty I have no problem putting bigger axle, tires, beefing frame etc. What are axle options that would work. I am not worried about braking ability as much as I tow with a 3500 truck

The Timbren Axle Less kits like the part # ASR5200S01 would be a great upgrade to increase your trailer's axle capacity. Otherwise you could go with a standard axle or another torsion axle from Dexter with increased capacity. If you wanted to go with a standard axle though you'd have to measure the distance between your spring seats as well as the distance between the centers of your hub faces since that is where you'd attach spring hangers for installing leaf springs.
You should note that it's hard to come up with an official uprated weight capacity for a camper since the weight capacity is more than just the axle capacity.
