Flashing Turn Signals Instead of Brake Lights on 2001 Chevy Silverado with Hopkins HM56101 Installed

Updated 08/03/2020 | Published 07/29/2020

Question:

I have a 2001 Silverado 2500 HD, this part #HM56101 said it would work with my truck. When I received the package it said the year of the vehicles covered starts at 2003 and newer. I have separate turn signal and brake lights. The running lights and turn signals work good. When I press on the brake the turn signal lights come on and stay on instead of the brake lights. I have the patriot 2 brake assist and when that applies brakes it does light up the other brake lights on the truck. The truck is all stock nothing extra added or changed. Thank You

The Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring # HM56101 is a confirmed fit on your 2001 Chevy Silverado. Since you're using a Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR supplemental braking system, you'll also want to use the Brake Light Relay # RM-88400, which the lack of might be causing this issue where your brake lights aren't truly functioning properly.

If you can let me know whether that part has also been installed, it would give me a better idea of what is really going on here.
