Can this winch be mounted on either side of a boat lift. It looks like the handle is only mountable on one side so this would mean the cable take-up would have to occur from both side of the winch. Is this the case ?

For a left-handed winch with a 2,500 lb capacity I would recommend you get a Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15403. What is nice about this winch is that if you wanted to move the handle to the other side of the winch you could. I spoke with my contact at Dutton Lainson to confirm this.
