Battery on Tekonsha Trailer Break Away System not Receiving Charge

Question:

All new wire- lights- hook up the 5085313 to the vehicle cord it does not charge when pushung the test button - push the test button- nothing- unhook the cord from the vehicle push the test button it comes up red light recharge

I would begin by testing the 12-volt accessory power circuit pin on the tow vehicle 7-way connector using a circuit tester like part # 40376. The 12-volt accessory pin is in the 2:00 position in the connector socket as shown in the provided photo. If you are not showing power on that pin, how to proceed next will depend on the year, make and model of vehicle and whether or not the 7-way is factory or aftermarket installed.

If the 7-way is factory installed, the fuse is most likely protected by a fuse. The fuse might need to be installed in order to activate the circuit, or the fuse might need replacing. If the 7-way is aftermarket installed, make sure the 12-volt accessory circuit is connected to the battery via a 40 amp fuse or circuit breaker.

I would also recommend reviewing the installation instructions for your break away kit to ensure that it has been wired properly.

If the unit has been wired properly and the 12-volt circuit at your 7-way is operational, please get back with me.
