Question:

I recently purchased a used 2004 Toyota 4Runner Limited to pull our 2006 Fleetwood Bayside folding trailer. It came with the factory installed tow hitch and 7 blade plug. I havent tried hooking it up to the trailer yet, my recollection is that our plug on the trailer side has a bigger circumference than that of the factory installed port. If this is true this maybe another issue that I will need help with needing a new plug for the trailer that could be spliced into its wiring harness, but first I need an electric brake controller and was impressed with the video promoting the Redarc proportional system. I want to make sure before ordering one that this will be a good fit for my vehicle and camper trailer and if you have any knowledge base for installing one in my particular vehicle and where you would suggest installing the controller and main unit and a listing of all the parts i need.

The trailer connectors are a standard size but there are two styles of 7-way connectors. For camping trailers the traditional 7-blade is by far more common than the agricultural 7-pin. Your trailer is likely all set to work with your 2004 Toyota 4Runner. To add the brake controller I recommend using the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Pigtail - Toyota # 3040-P and # 331-TPH-017 for the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # RED44FR.
