Question:
My existing 4 on 4 Bolt pattern axle is 53inch on spring center and 63-7/16inch hub face to hub face. 12 inch wheels. My decision is to cut and weld a spacer in the 60 inch Dexter or relocate the mounts on the 72 inch Dexter to match 53inch spring center? Im leaning towards the 60 inch Dexter because the 72 inch Dexter hub face to hub face dimension will position the wheels about 2 inches outside my fenders. I would use a professional welder to install a spacer inside the ID of the 60 inch axle. My only concern is the bow in the 60 inch axle. In your opinion, is the bow gradual enough that a spacer to achieve my 53 inch spring center will work? 72 inch Dexter is not an attractive option for me. The application is a 16 foot aluminum boat and motor. Total weight about 1000lbs.

The 72 inch Dexter Trailer Axle # 20440I-EZ-72 would be the better option here. Going with a shorter axle than what you have, like the 60 inch # 20440I-EZ-60, isn't ideal as shortening the base of the trailer could throw off capacities or even the balance of the trailer.
The best option is really to get an axle fabricated to your specific needs, but between these two axles the better choice is the 72 inch Dexter Trailer Axle # 20440I-EZ-72.
