Upgrading Dexter Double-Eye Spring 072-020-00

Question:

Id like to upgrade the Dexter Leaf Spring 072-020-00 for 4400# axle with the 5 leaf Leaf spring for 6000# axle SP-111275, but notices the eye to eye spacing on the SP-111275 is 25-1/4inch where the Dexter leaf is 24. Will this work okay. I will probably replace the U bolts with the APUBR-8 kit and never fail hardware kit.

In order to replace the leaf springs on a trailer you'll need to choose ones that have the same unloaded length from eye to eye. If you go with a set slightly longer or shorter you'd then need to swap out the shackle straps as well to help compensate for the difference in length. The closest we have to 24" is the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # SP-222275 which will be an upgrade from the Dexter Double-Eye Spring 072-020-00.

However, since it's slightly longer you'd want to use a slightly shorter shackle strap which you can see a list of below.
