Replacement Axle Needed for Dexter Axle Mobile Home Axle

Question:

Hello, have a trailer frame. It had a Mobile Home Axle on it. I believe it was a #42 Dexter type, 5200/600 pound axle. Had 255580 inner and a 15245 outer bearing. The axle is shot. Frame width is 75 !/2 wide. What are my options? I want at least a 6 x 5 1/2 or 8 x bolt hubs. I am just keeping things consistent. I want a complete set up, hub to hub, u bolts . double eye springs, brakes and two wheels. ready to mount. ANY help, guidance or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. End use is general use ag/farm trailer. best regards,

Thank you for all of the good info! Since mobile home axles are just meant to be used once we want to focus on weight capacity and fit with your trailer frame to make sure we get something that is a good replacement.

I'm guessing that when you measures the 75-1/2" width of your trailer frame that you were measuring outside to outside so the 6K Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 8327830-EB with the 74" spring-center and 89" hub-face measurements should do the trick. I do recommend verifying this with your old axle dimensions as well just to be on the safe side of things (see attached). The U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-9 will work just fine with this axle.

For leaf springs you'll want to measure your current set from center-eye to center-eye and choose one from the linked selection that is the closest to what you find when your current spring doesn't have tension on it.

When it comes to a tire/wheel combo I recommend the Kenda Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire with 16" Black Mod Wheel # AM34834 because it has a load range of E which is 3,500 lbs at 90 psi per tire so that your tire isn't the limiting factor when it comes to weight capacity.

If you have any additional questions please let me know!
