Question:
I am trying to find the best option for a brake controller for my 2020 Toyota 4Runner. The vehicle came factory wired with the exception of the controller. A trailer brake jumper harness was included in the sale. I found it in the glove box. I noticed that it has 5 wires. When I view my options for controllers they all show four wires. I’d like do without the custom pigtail wire and use the wire provided with the car. Which controller do you recommend and how do I connect the wires?

It's my understanding that your 2020 Toyota 4Runner should have come with a connector already installed up and behind the emergency brake pedal. If all you found was a bundle of wires and then a connector in your glove box then you should be able to either install that connector so that you can use an adapter, or you can possibly bypass the harness you found if the wiring under your dash is long enough. I can make some recommendations for both options but I will say that I don't know what the wiring functions are on your 4Runner so you'd have to use a circuit tester # PTW2992 to determine what wires carry which functions.
If you wanted to use the adapter so that the controller can easily be removed if need be, then I recommend going with the Prodigy P3 # 90195 brake controller which uses the Adapter # 3041-P.
For the hardwiring you'll want to follow this guide for the pigtail that comes with the P3:
Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer
Black - 12V Power
White - Ground
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)
