Question:
Ive read your responses to other Subaru 2012 Sport Hatchback owners but Im still somewhat confused over whether I can use a trunk bike carrier or not. You state that the Thule 910 would work as long as the car doesnt have a spoiler. I didnt add a spoiler option however, the rear hood of my hatchback does stick out 1 -2 inches above the rear window- would this negate the use of a rear bike carrier? I would prefer to buy a removable bike rack to the expense of a trailer hitch/ bike carrier but will go that route if it is my only option. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

In terms of a trunk mount bike rack, that rear piece you have described that also holds the third brake light on your 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback does count as a spoiler. The problem is that piece is not designed or rated for the additional weight of a rack.
The safest option and best way to carry bikes is to use a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack. If you have a WRX or WRX STi model with quad exhaust then you can use trailer hitch # C11120. If you have single tip exhaust you can use hitch # C11286. For either hitch, Curt requires the use of a stabilization strap # 18050 when using the hitch with a bike rack. I have linked instructions for both hitches.
These are Class I trailer hitches so you will need to use a bike rack compatible with a Class I hitch and you are limited to 2 bikes. I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. This rack is Class I compatible, it has anti-sway cradles, the ability to tilt down, and an integrated cable lock. It also has a 3 inch rise in the shank for greater ground clearance. I have included some links on this rack as well.
